ChaCha.com: Better than Matlock by Justin

Yesterday, Digital Home Mag wrote an amazingly wonderful article about ChaCha.com- and I have not let my personal feelings bias that qualification at all. These guys actually do an excellent job of demonstrating how well ChaCha works. I’ll put the first two thirds of the article on here, but you’re going to have to go to Digital Home’s Blog to read the thrilling conclusion.

Sit and chat while someone else searches for you… for free

Google is the best search engine on the web. Sure, there are Google-haters out there who will tell you not to use it and that Windows Live Search beta is the way to go.

But still, most of the time when you’re searching for something on the web, if you’re going to find it anywhere, you’re going to find it on Google.

But what about those times when you just cannot find what you’re looking for? You’re positive that it must be on the web somewhere, but you just have no idea how to find it.

ChaCha backs up Google nicely

ChaCha.com could well be the answer. Because despite serving up what seems like just another search engine alternative, it offers one totally unique service: a personal search assistant.

And we’re not talking about the re-birth of that annoying Microsoft Office paperclip, we’re talking about a real person on the other end (who you can chat with via instant messaging built into the web page), who will help you find what you’re looking for.

In theory it sounds like a fantastic idea on a consumer level. On the other hand, if it ever becomes hugely popular it’s hard to see how they would provide enough search assistants to meet the demand; at the moment they’re still in alpha testing.

We decided to try it out. We have been wanting to re-watch that Coke TV advert that was on in the summer. It had stop-motion animated coke bottles bouncing around in a flowery summer garden, with Grandaddy music in the background. Searching on Google, Live and YouTube did not help us. So we turned to ChaCha…. (Thrilling conclusion)

Of course, they did say we’re a nice back-up for the G word, but hey, we’re still in our experimental “Alpha” phase. And as Scott, our CEO said, “Trust me, the last paragraph will soon be saying to go to ChaCha first… just give us a few months. No doubt!”

  1. This is a great article, and it’s all true.
The Alpha phase we are in is full of bugs and issues, and that’s understandable, but the fact that we can still produce such great results while in this phase is very very promising!
    Kudos to Cha Cha!

Nice writeup! That really is better than Matlock, maybe even up there with the likes of Knight Rider and The A-Team!

  4. Nice, keep at it waiting for the searches and for all the kinks to get worked out..

My sister-in-law just brought up a great point about ChaCha. With all the search engines out there, ChaCha is one of the few that ensures a family safe search for your kids when looking for information. We filter the unwanted junk and adult content. Another great selling point when someone says “Why should I use ChaCha?.”

I learned about ChaCha on the GMA program. I, immediately, canceled NetZero, enrolled in Suddenlink and began working toward becoming a ChaCha guide. I am an apprentice, but still part of the group. Thank you ChaCha. I can’t be any more excited about being a part of this wonderful and growing team.
